Application

The 2020-2021 Commercial Real Estate Workshop application will open in March of 2020. Please apply through Kelley Connect (search Jobs for “workshop” or job posting). You will be required to provide a resume and unofficial contract. After the preliminary round, selected applicants will schedule an interview through Kelley Connect.

Admission

Applicants will hear back a few weeks after interviews take place. The workshop will typically admit 35 – 45 students to join the workshop. These students will gain access to the CRW course (F428).

The Course

The Commercial Real Estate Workshop is a 3 credit hour course, 1.5 hours per semester and only 8 weeks each semester. The workshop immerses students in the industry by providing a series of outstanding guest speakers supported by a case study format emphasizing some of the more sophisticated, important, or leading areas of the industry. The workshop allows students the opportunity to interact with faculty and industry experts with more depth and flexibility than is provided in a traditional classroom setting. course (F428).

Core Emphasis

  1. Real estate financial modeling including development feasibility analysis, valuation, and asset management concepts.
  2. Alternative real estate operating models including real estate investment trusts, private equity, and entrepreneurship.
  3. Real estate fundamentals including important concepts involved in the areas of real estate markets, capital, site selection, law, financing, and leasing.
  4. Primary product types including office, including medical office, industrial, retail, hotel, and multifamily.

Learning Objectives

The Commercial Real Estate Workshop is designed to improve the student’s real estate knowledge/skills through case based learning. Some of the objectives include, applying real estate knowledge and skills to case study examples, Enhancing real estate finance analytical skills, Developing an in depth and practical understanding of the commercial real estate industry, and Improving interpersonal and professional communication skills.

Integrating this opportunity with the classroom and the many activities of the Indiana Real Estate Club and the Center for Real Estate Studies provides a second to none education to highly motivated real estate students interested in real estate. These students find a unique advantage in recruiting given the strong and favorable perception of the workshop. Additionally members can develop connections with professionals through dinners with top recruiters often after case competitions.

The Real Estate Private Equity Fund (F455) is a selective program designed for highly capable students with an interest in real estate. The “Fund” is a rigorous program allowing students the opportunity to manage all aspects of a real estate private equity firm. The intention of the program, if admitted, is to provide unparalleled and valuable real-world experience for students and fulfilling involvement opportunities for alumni.
