Networking and Events

Recruiting Events

Each Fall and Winter the Center for Real Estate Studies hosts a Luncheon in Indianapolis. The Luncheon is attended by IU and IUPUI real estate students as well as school alumni and professionals in the real estate industry.

During the event there’s typically a guest speaker who will come to offer their knowledge and experience in a way that both students and professionals can learn from. This past fall luncheon in 2019 featured Spencer Levy, CBRE’s senior economic advisor, who dove into the Indianapolis real estate market, giving specific market insights and explaining ways in which it had been outperforming or underperforming similar markets around the country.

This event provides students the opportunity to network with students and professionals in the industry while listening to a guest speaker. Immediately following the luncheon is a career fair attended by Real Estate companies. Students should utilize this time to learn more about specific roles in real estate and establish relationships with company professionals. Many students have found internship/full time opportunities through this and we highly recommend attending if you can.

The Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation

The Eisenberg Foundation provides a plethora of unique opportunities for students in the Real Estate industry. The foundation looks to empower young individuals through networking events as well as case competitions. The foundation also focuses on gastrointestinal cancer research and aims to advance cancer medicine and increase survivorship by fighting cancers of the esophagus, liver, pancreas, kidneys, stomach, intestines, gallbladder, colon, and rectum.

The Harold E. Eisenberg Career day occurs annually every fall. It is a two-day event based in Chicago, Illinois where  students are provided the opportunity to network with industry leaders while gaining valuable exposure to the Chicago real estate world. Over 100 of the brightest real estate students in the Midwest and nationwide are given exclusive access to two development project site tours, a “Young Guns” dinner and panel discussion with rising stars in the industry, and a roundtable lunch with executive leaders.

The Harold E. Eisenberg Case Competition occurs in April each year and offers a opportunity to compete against real estate students from universities in the midwest region. This competition challenges student teams to act as individual development companies by creating plans for a significant site in the Chicago area. The teams, along with their advisors, determine what should be built and provide a full analysis explaining their plan as well as the effects it would have on the community. The winning plan is the most economically viable and most complementary to the unique uses of the surrounding site. Finally, the winner of the competition wins $5000 in the form of a scholarship from the foundation to the university.

Job Fairs

Outside of the biannual career fairs hosted by The IU Center for Real Estate students can attend various other events to gain more exposure to industry professionals. These events have created meaningful job and internship opportunities for students.

International Case Competitions

Listed below are case competitions that IU Real Estate students have competed in. IU has found success and often places among the top 5 in most of the competitions it competes in. Spots are limited but provide amazing experience as well as great interview and resume resources. These case competitions often include analysis on existing properties or development on empty or vacant land. Small groups are asked to work together and provide a professional slide deck and presentations to judges are often industry professionals representing elite companies.
